Guardian Gives Back During the Holidays

Guardian is dedicated to giving back all year long, but it becomes a particular focus around the holiday season. November and December are filled with many opportunities for employees to contribute to charitable causes. Many individual departments and branches hold their own charitable giving events, but the corporate office traditionally focuses on three giving opportunities during the holidays.

Jeans For Beans– Employees can wear jeans to work if they bring one or more non-perishable food item to donate. In November and December, there are 11 Jeans for Beans days. Cans are then donated to local non-profits including Jubilee Soup Kitchen in Pittsburgh, PA and Gleaners Food Bank in Cranberry Township, PA. Employees get the opportunity to support their local community, while getting to dress more casually for a day in the office. Guardian has been donating through this program for 10 years and donates over one ton of food every year.

Variety, the Children’s Charity– Since 2014, Guardian has supported Variety, the Children’s Charity. During November and December, employees can purchase raffle tickets for a holiday 50/50 drawing. One half of the raised funds goes towards buying custom-built adaptive bikes and strollers for children with physical challenges. Guardian has donated 3 adaptive bicycles and 2 adaptive strollers since the program began. Annually Guardian holds an event where children receive their new bike/stroller and get to take a ride around the Guardian building.

NHS Allegheny Valley School (NHS/AVS)– Guardian employees also grant holiday wishes for the residents of NHS/AVS. Residents who have intellectual and developmental disabilities send Guardian what they would like for Christmas on ornaments, and Guardian employees claim the ornaments to buy gifts for residents based on their requests. With participation from Guardian’s corporate office and Western Operations Center in Tempe, AZ office, Guardian provides gifts for all the residents that live on the main campus. A small group of employees, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus hand deliver the packages to the residents and sing carols. Guardian has worked with NHS/AVS since 1997 and have grown the number of gifts delivered every year.
